Staying in hotels that stand tall amidst the clouds are soon going to lose their charm. Welcome the world’s first underground 5-star resort in Shanghai — the Intercontinental Shanghai Wonderland. By Japleen Kaur
After almost a decade, people will be able to book a stay, and live underground in the city that’s known for its gorgeous skyline, Shanghai. It is built inside a deserted quarry 35 kms from Shanghai in Songjiang. Yup, you read that right — 16 out of the 18 floors will be underground, almost 300 feet under with views of the cliff, and a gorgeous waterfall.
The last two floors will literally be under water, and guests can enjoy the views of a huge aquarium by staying there. The hotel has been designed by the guys behind the architecture of Burj Khalifa in Dubai, so hey, nothing can be as credible as this resort.
There is a rooftop (read: ground level) garden for those who want to take a break from being underground. The hotel will also generate its own energy, thus earning huge brownie points in the environment department. Adding to the list of amenities, there is a swimming pool, and sports complex right at the bottom. Now, that’s should be something!
The resort opens its doors on December 1st. One night stay will set you back by Rs. 37,000 per person a night. New Year plan in the making, anyone?
