Tata Group and Singapore Airlines’ joint venture, Vistara, has consistently taken steps towards customer’s safety, particularly with respect to post-pandemic travel. In an announcement made on April 30, the Indian full-service airline intends on making temporary changes to its inflight products and services once operations resume. Moreover, the announcement also claims to introduce new operating procedures to minimise touch-points of human contact by up to 80 per cent.

While the airlines will continue serving food and beverages in all cabins, it aims to limit the crew’s time spent in the aisle and the extent of interaction. To facilitate this, Vistara will reduce the meal choices for domestic flights, and will also be withdrawing services such as welcome drink, hot meals and beverages in the Premium Economy and Economy cabins. Water, which is so far poured into glasses, will now be replaced with the distribution of 200 millilitre sealed bottle on all flights. Cold refreshments, however, will be served to customers flying in the Premium Economy, Economy, and Economy Lite fares. In order to minimise the spread of infections, inflight magazines and other reading material will also be temporarily suspended.

The same precaution extends to the Vistara crew as well. Every cabin crew member will undergo thermal screenings before and after the departure of the flight and will be provided with personal protective gears (PPE) such as face masks and disposable gloves at all times. Those members showing any symptoms of infections, or tested positive for the virus will be quarantined.

Disinfecting the aircraft after every flight, and deep cleaning it every 24 hours with approved disinfectant cleaners are also being planned. Vistara also intends on equipping all its aircrafts with surgical masks, gloves, sanitiser wipes, and contact-less infrared thermometers.
