One of the most popular beach destinations of the country, Goa has emerged to be the most vegan-friendly state in India now! The news might come as a surprise to many, as the state is equally known for its lip-smacking seafood and meat offerings. Here’s everything we know about it so far. By Kumar Shree

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) recently recognised Goa as the most vegan-friendly state in India. PETA India also felicitated Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for promoting vegan-friendly establishments in the state.

As reported by Mid-Day, PETA India’s vegan outreach coordinator Dr Kiran Ahuja said, “Goa is quickly becoming a top dining destination for the increasing number of people interested in the healthy and cruelty-free fare. PETA India is recognising Goa for leading by example and showing other states how to meet the growing demand for vegan food and fashion in style.”

A closer look at the thriving food scene of Goa gives a better idea about its emergence as the most vegan-friendly state in India. Goa has seen significant growth in the number of vegan restaurants in the recent past. Some of the noteworthy establishments are Bean Me Up, Blue Planet Cafe, Cafe Tato’s, Chia Lounge, Soul Booster and Zest.

“One of the country’s top tourism destinations, #Goa, has been recognised by People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (@PetaIndia) as India’s “most #vegan-friendly state” for the year 2020, an official statement said on Saturday,” IANS tweeted.

Goa already has a diverse culinary landscape, and while meat and seafood spreads are hugely popular, this vegan addition will certainly work wonders for the state’s tourism sector.

Even though Goa ranks high on India’s tourism circuit, it has given another reason for tourists to visit the beachy paradise now.
