Over the last few days, Kashmir has been seeing some heavy snowfall. As the northern region battles extreme cold and chilly winds, the valley is covered in a blanket of snow. So, in case you can’t head there, we’ve collated a series of pictures to take you to the surreal destination virtually and enjoy the beauty.
This time of the year is among the best to head to Kashmir. Why? The entire valley is covered in a blanket of snow, and the beauty of this view justifies the word paradise which is now a synonym for Kashmir. The entire region – trees, lakes and more – sees snowfall. The destination is mesmerising all year round, to say the least, but come winter, it gets better.
This makes October to March the best time to visit Kashmir. The flavours of local Kashmiri cuisine and ingredients are all the more pronounced, as it warms you up from within. The Dal Lake and the gardens in Kashmir, skiing in Gulmarg, and nature retreats in Sonmarg and Yusmarg are like visiting heaven, because of the natural beauty that surrounds you.

What to do in Kashmir during winters
Spend a day at (and by) the freezing Dal Lake in Srinagar. Indulge in flavourful Wazwani cuisine and sip on cups of kehwa, as you sit by the fire to warm yourself up. Witness the stunning snow at Gulmarg and skiing off the slopes should add up to your bucket list, along with a visit to Pahalgam and Sonmarg. Also enjoy things such as sledging, heli-skiing and other fun snow-based outdoor activities.
Be sure to carry enough woollens, including shawls and ponchos, along with enough sunscreen and a pair of sunglasses (because the sun high up is quite strong). The temperatures in January can fall down to -12 degrees Celsius, so the Kashmir snowfall will make for an enchanting visit and a mesmerising journey.
