The charming and architecturally-rich city of Chandigarh is all set to add another tourist attraction to its kitty by introducing multiple mid-air restaurants. Read on for more details. By Kumar Shree
What’s better than going out and indulging in your favourite gourmet offerings? Doing that while sitting at a height of 165 feet up in the air, and enjoying an expansive view of the city at the same time! And it seems like Chandigarh is well acquainted with the charm of sky dining, and is now planning to bring this novel experience to its ground. According to media reports, the UT Administration is working on a plan to introduce a first-of-its-kind sky dining restaurant in Chandigarh. For this, a crane will hang the restaurant at 165 feet wherein 24 people will be able to dine at a time.
As reported by Hindustan Times, a senior UT official said, “The project is being considered to give a fillip to the tourism industry in the city. Sukhna Lake, Leisure Valley, or Kaimbwala village are the options where the project can be started. The administration will take a call on the location and other terms and conditions of the project at a meeting scheduled on Friday.”
Daman Kapoor, MD, DSH Bliss Adventures Pvt Ltd is hoping to bring the mid-air restaurant to the city. As reported by Hindustan Times, he said, “This is a unique restaurant. Other places offering such concepts include Agra and Bengaluru.” He also added that the structure would use aircraft-standard safety belts and seats that can rotate 180 degrees to allow visitors to get a panoramic view of the location. The entire meal will wrap up in 40 minutes, while the platform will take about 45 seconds to reach the desired height, and another 45 seconds to return to the base.
Speculations suggest that ticket prices for a meal at this mid-air restaurant could range between INR 2,500 to INR 4,000. While the ticket prices will be finalised in a meeting held by the UT officials, the restaurant will start operations only after getting all the necessary permits from the administration.
