Barolo won the City of Wine for 2021 title, beating six other towns by having a calendar full of events including exhibitions, seminars, and classes for the whole of next year. The decision for the award came from Città del Vino national association, who are actively involved in promoting Italian towns and cities from the country’s wine regions.

The theme of the year will be a flashback to the past through various events and initiatives that will revolve around traditional celebrations, passing of the seasons, and remembering those who contributed to the history of the now-iconic Barolo wine.
The main purpose of the award is to promote the area’s wine culture and wine tourism along with highlighting sustainable practices and raising eco-awareness among visitors. Apart from being home to the oldest wine-producing regions in the world, the country is also the world’s largest exporter of these popular and aromatic wines.
