We all need a little push from time to time to get us packing that bag and stepping out of our comforts. And there’s no denying that art is one of the greatest motivators of all time. So, this weekend, to kickstart or accelerate your summer holiday and travel plans, we have got the perfect list of movies for you, which exemplify the courage in stepping out of comfort zones. 1. Wild (2014)
This may appeal to the ladies a tad bit more than the men for it is the story of a woman who undertakes a seemingly impossible journey of a one hundred mile solo hike with a bag that perhaps is a metaphor for the baggage of her recent personal tragedy. There’s nothing predictable about this movie. It takes you on the journey as Cheryl Strayed navigates her through every difficulty.
2. One Week
Hop on as Ben Tyler takes you with him on his bike journey from Toronto to Tofino in British Columbia. Like many others who have embarked on journeys, which were more personal adventures than explorations of sights and views, Ben is also on a quest, that of the meaning of life. Does he stumble upon it or is it laid out in front of him. You’ll only know if you find out.
3. The Darjeeling Limited
Death takes people away and sometimes, it gets three brothers to reunite after their father’s funeral. The unison is after a year and among three rich, spoiled brothers who take a wacky journey on the train throughout the country. ‘Wacky’ in every sense of the term, their constant fights, bouts of bickering, and general frustration finally lead to realisations, helping put two and two together. The movie captures the country beautifully.
4. The Bucket List
When Jack Nicolson and Morgan Freeman team up to tell the tale of two deceased men on the lookout for fulfilling their last wishes, expect nothing but sheer cinematic brilliance. It’s a tearjerker, sure, but it also moves you into considering the things you have stacked in your bucket list to do “someday.” But hey, life is super short for procrastinating on our dreams!
5. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
This movie speaks to an audience much larger than just India’s. The story of three friends taking a bachelor journey before one of them gets married charts their individual sacrifices, insecurities, fallacies, and fears, all the while taking us across Spain in the most beautiful ride. A few cheerful songs and the occasional jig and the glimpses of the Tomatina Festival make for an unforgettable two-and-something hours.
