Whether it’s a quick transit stop for international travellers, a business meeting or a staycation, The LaLiT Mumbai is the perfect base for all types of stays. By Amitha Ameen
Usually, during my travels, the commute time from the airport to my place is something I take great effort in avoiding. As if sitting in a flight for hours isn’t enough, I must bear the long car-ride as well. This is exactly why the five-minute drive from Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport to LaLiT Mumbai during one of my recent work trips had me jumping with joy.
Grandeur is the first word that pops into my head as I stand in the middle of the soaring seven-storey atrium lobby, one of the largest in Asia, I am told. Skylights, priceless murals and a grand piano at the lobby are what immediately catches my eye. I am greeted by the friendly staff who quickly usher me to my room. The hotel has 369 suites, rooms and apartments – ideally designed for families and corporates alike. The premier room, my abode for the next two days, is bright and comfortable and blends modern décor with a traditional Indian touch.
A quick nap and a refreshing shower later, I wander within the hotel to explore the ‘unparalleled amenities’ that the hotel boasts of. Safe to say, I am not disappointed. My aimless meandering first brings me to the all-weather outdoor pool, and I have to say, it’s my favourite part of the hotel. A wooden roundhouse and layers of foliage make for the perfect outdoor pool ambience.
A private high-tech movie theatre, 24×7 state-of-the-art gym and a spa offering natural therapies are some of the other facilities on offer at the LaLiT Mumbai. To grab a bite, I head to the 24/7, multi-cuisine restaurant. From live counters to Chinese and continental, and to a whole section dedicated to just desserts, the hotel impresses me with its wide variety buffet spread. I quickly settle down and order myself a filter kaapi (a traditional south Indian filter coffee). Of course, as a non-vegetarian, I take the opportunity to fully indulge in the famed Maharashtrian coastal spread at the buffet.
For a more fine-dining experience, the hotel offers two exclusive restaurants – Baluchi and Trendz. While Baluchi serves delectable pan Indian cuisine, the latter has Italian on its menu. The LaLiT Mumbai is also home to the famed nightclub, Kitty Su. Frequented by stars, this swanky and exclusive nightclub is on every party-goers list.
To sum up my stay, I would recommend the LaLiT Mumbai to anyone looking for a quick break from work or travel whilst enjoying a 360-degree experience.
