When here, expect to get embraced by a blanket of lush greenery that stretches till the eye can see. Coffee plantations, tea estates and even an array of wildlife sit here in perfect symphony. Elephants, leopards, lion-tailed macaque, barking deer, wild boar, the Nilgiri (at the Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary), and a variety of birds namely the Great Hornbill, the Malabar Pied Hornbill, and the Grey Malabar Hornbill — you can find them all in Valparai. Chinna Kallar in Valparai is also one of the highest rainfall receiving areas in India.

As reported by the Times Of India, currently, a botanical garden and a boathouse are under construction in Valparai. Both projects are expected to conclude by December 2020. If everything is on track, the projects will be inaugurated for general visitors in January 2021.

Municipal Administration Minister, SP Velumani, had laid the foundation stone for these two projects in March 2019, and Valparai Municipal Commissioner K Paunraj recently visited the boathouse to examine the construction work on July 25.

The state government has sanctioned INR 5.47 crore for the construction of the botanical garden on 4.5 acres of PWD land, and INR 2.5 crore for the boathouse on 4.25 acres of land.

Once the projects come to life, they are expected to boost the tourist footfall by significant figures.
