When it comes to Japan, seafood is a no-brainer. Its fresh produce finds its way to the streets to be served to seafood lovers in the most unique and palatable manner possible. Kaisen Dob is a seafood bowl, which comes with raw fish and toppings of your choice. If you aren’t so sure about eating raw fish, you can go for the cooked variations. They are definitely a staple for the locals, and they are extremely affordable and filling.

Tamagoyaki is a sort of Japanese omelette, except that it comes on a stick! Yes, you read that right. Living by Japan’s tradition of doing everything out of the box, Tamagoyaki is tasty, fluffy, and sweet. It is made by rolling several layers of fried egg on a rectangular pan and is just the best pick-me-up for a quick Japanese street food-style breakfast.

One of the best things to munch on while you stroll through the lively streets of Tokyo is the Mitarashi Dango. These fried rice flour balls dipped in sweet soy and glazy soy sauce are also served on a skewer for convenience. The marriage of sweet and salty on the taste palette is something that is worth devouring, more than just once!

Okay, this may not be limited to Japan anymore as it has spread like wildfire throughout the world as we are acknowledging the goodness of matcha but when in Tokyo, you simply cannot miss out on the best Matcha Gelato Soft Serves. While matcha is itself great for your health, the sugar and the toppings of the gelato serve make it more of an indulgence. But hey, who cares about calories on holiday, right?

5. Ikayaki

Another served-on-a-stick Japanese street food favourite is Ikayaki, which, simply put, is a whole squid served straight off the grill. The soft, chewy, tender squid is then flavoured with a gentle sweet soy sauce.

6. Onigiri

Onigiri with Shaved Tororo Kombu and Ebiko (Japanese Rice Balls with Shaved Kelp and Shrimp Roe) . At a glance, Tororo kombu looks like a piece of undyed Muslim cloth but it is actually kelp that had been soaked in vinegar for a day before being shaved into fine flakes and dried. It is soft to the touch and literally melts in the mouth. The best part is the kelp has zero calories and therefore an ideal seasoning for those trying to eat healthily. Tororo konbu can be stored for a long period of time without spoiling. #balsamicvinegarspheres #ebiko #fingerfood #japanesefood #japanesefoodie #japanigram #kelp #lovejapanesefood #moleculargastronomy #onigiri #platingfood #riceballs #seaweed #shrimproe #tasty #umami

If you love Sushi, there’s no way you will dislike Onigiri. It’s a bigger, triangular form of sushi crisp seaweed wrapped around sticky rice and savoury condiments of choice. It is healthy and fulfilling, and is surely the best bet on a healthy meal for anyone on-the-go.
