On August 1, 2019, Sri Lanka granted free visas to travellers from 48 countries, including India, for a period of six months. This was done in an attempt to recover the country’s tourism industry, which suffered a major setback following the Easter Sunday attacks on April 21, 2019, which targeted three churches and three luxury hotels in Colombo and killed over 250 people. With the six months’ period coming to an end, the Sri Lankan tourism industry has urged the continuation of the regime, as it has played a crucial role in the thorough recovery of the industry.
