One of the most iconic names in the global fashion scene, Ralph Lauren celebrated 50 years in the industry last weekend. The party was set against the backdrop of one of New York’s most famous landmarks, Central Park’ s Bethesda Terrace, and it was raining celebrities. By Nitya Malik
The evening was as glitzy as you can imagine a Ralph Lauren party to be. With digital installations showcasing the most iconic moments of his 50-year-long career, monolithic LED sculptures, and over 400 images, there was a lot for guests to be rapt in.
Front row guests at the fashion show included the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Vera Wang, and Michael Kors. Movie stars, business tycoons, entertainers, politicians, even our very own Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas were spotted entering the party. Blake Lively, Hillary Clinton, Steven Spielberg, Chance the Rapper, Jessica Chastain, Robert De Niro, Bruce Springsteen, Tony Bennett, Kanye West, Iman, and Anne Hathaway were some of the other people present at the evening.
What has always distinguished Lauren from other designers are his timeless classics featuring plaids, patchwork, velvet, fringed sequins skirt, leather, rugby sweaters, cowboy style—all of which were showcased in the fashion show. It was like living the last 50 years of the fashion empire he built.
The night was more than just about fashion and clothes; it was the story of how this one man shaped the entire industry, brought diversification, and swept racism over with his sense of inclusion. It was about the integrity and freedom that his clothes have brought over decades, the aspirational value of luxury fashion, and what the American dream is really about.
