Qatar Airways is giving away 21,000 free return tickets to teachers.

To celebrate World Teacher’s Day on October 5—and for three days after, till October 8— Qatar Airways is gifting teachers complimentary economy class return tickets to any destination operated by the airlines, states an official release. In doing so, the carrier wishes to thank teachers and educators for the vital role they played in imparting knowledge despite tumultuous circumstances.

For this, teaching professionals across 75 countries are eligible, as per the release. The statement further adds that each country will be allocated a set number of tickets, out of a total of 21,000 tickets, on a daily basis in a staggered manner. This allocation of tickets will take place at 04:00 am AST (06:30 am IST) to ensure complete transparency, it states.

According to the same release, educators can register on the website by submitting a form, post which a unique promotion code is sent on a first-come, first-serve basis. Upon successful registration, teachers receive one free (taxes excluded) economy class return ticket to any serviceable destination, along with a half-off voucher for any future return ticket. Both these tickets can be availed for any journey up to September 30, 2021.

Qatar Airways has been supporting Education Above All’s Educate A Child programme since 2013.

Moreover, teachers who successfully register themselves can even benefit from flexible booking policies. For example, tickets issued on December 31, 2020, are valid for two years with unlimited date changes. In case of a change in plans, the same can also be exchanged for a travel voucher with an additional 10 per cent value.

Speaking about the initiative, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Akbar Al Baker, says in the release, “We at Qatar Airways are incredibly grateful for the commitment and hard work of teaching professionals around the world who continue to educate our young people in these times of uncertainty. We know that it has not been an easy task, yet teachers have been incredibly resourceful, turning to online learning and other methods.” He adds, “As an airline, we firmly believe in the importance of education and are committed to lending our support to educational causes.”

Notably, the Middle-eastern airlines has been supporting Education Above All’s Educate A Child programme since 2013. Additionally, the airlines also gives its passengers an option to donate to Educate A Child during online booking and onboard. The airline also displays the foundation’s video commercial on its Oryx One in-flight entertainment to raise awareness and encourage donations.
