Editor’s note: The global COVID-19 crisis has left each one of us deeply affected and we want to help. Burda Media India has organised a fundraising campaign to #FightBackWithTesting and donating RT-PCR test kits to the worst-affected areas in India, which will be secured from our testing partner Mylab Discovery Solutions. As the world collectively fights a grey period, celebrations once considered easy are forced to undergo a metamorphosis as well, forcing each one to think out of the box. Mother’s Day this Sunday (May 10) will be no different either, thanks to online experiences with Airbnb. By Bayar Jain
Online experiences is a new domain to venture into for Airbnb. The lodging company added the digital route to their repertoire a month ago in April 2020, to unlock unprecedented access to inspiring hosts across the world, including Olympic medalists, Buddhist monks, magicians, and more. Through this, guests have a chance to virtually connect with new people, or visit the dogs of Chernobyl, taste wine in Portugal, or make coffee with a professional coffee taster, all from the comfort of their own living rooms. Taking this initiative further are the special Mother’s Day experiences crafted to shower moms around the world with affection all month.
Understanding of the fact that one may not be able to travel to meet their mothers in other cities, states, or even countries this year, Airbnb has tailored a collection of online experiences for all those planning the perfect day for their mom right from their safe homes. Guests can choose from a collection of online experiences to rekindle the bond with their family and find meaningful ways to celebrate moms in their life from a distance.
These experiences could range from anything: tapping into your creative side with DIY gift ideas taught by expert hosts, such as songwriting with a Nashville musician or baking Latin pastries; or even gathering loved ones to make wine with an archaeologist or sound bathe with a Singaporean DJ live.
Some of their other exciting experiences include the meditative art of forest bathing based out of Sintra, Portugal; hand lettering and modern calligraphy from Grosse Pointe, Michigan; sake secrets from Japan’s oldest brewery; pancake flip-along for a good cause from San Francisco; or even learning to collage with a Barcelonian artist.
They’ve even crafted an India-specific experience for desi moms for what Indians are believed to be fond of the most – food! Indians can ring in the special day by bringing the flavours of India to life at home along with a New Delhi based chef. The session will take participants through the intricacies of Indian spices and different cooking techniques, and will also guide through easy-to-replicate recipes.
Irrespective of the chosen session, guests can opt for private bookings or even join a group from other parts of the world. Either way, a fun-filled memorable Sunday with lots of affection is guaranteed!
