Ever since the pandemic has brought about a halt in the tourism sector and the economy in general, countries around the world have been luring visitors with attractive long-term stay visa options for remote workers. The latest to join in on the bandwagon is Mauritius Tourism. By Amitha Ameen

In today’s times, every second person is working remotely as the world is still dealing with the effects of COVID-19 pandemic. A lot of us have already spent more than half of 2020 cooped up inside our homes and glued to our screens. So, when an opportunity presents itself where we can relocate to an idyllic island without having to press pause on our work, we are ready to grab it.

Mauritius Tourism has just introduced an attractive renewable premium travel visa for non-citizens for a period of one year. Those eligible for this new visa, include, remote workers, visitors, retirees, and parents of children studying in the country. So, if you are one of them and interested in applying, get ready with a proof of your long-term stay plans and necessary medical and travel insurance for the period of your stay.

However, those wishing to get employed at an establishment in Mauritius are not eligible for the visa, as it is allowed only for people whose income and business is located outside of the island, for which, supporting documents showing the purpose of visit and details of accommodation, are also mandatory.

Mauritius is a great destination for people fond of the sun, sand, and the beach. The island is known for its luxury resorts, rich wildlife, thick forests, and world-class water adventure activities. Its last Corona case was reported on April 29. Those wishing to enter the island must agree to a mandatory 14-day quarantine period, that is applicable until November 30. Additionally, travellers must also submit a negative PCR test taken no longer than seven days before arrival.
