Riding a bicycle proves to be quite beneficial to health, as well as the environment. According to the Better Health Channel, over one billion people indulge in cycling every day. Moreover, cycle is considered eco-friendlier and it is a sustainable mode of transport that do not contribute to pollution. Emphasising on that, Poland decided to take a step towards sustainability. It introduced solar-powered bicycle tracks, which illuminate in the dark thus encouraging bicyclers to adopt this eco-friendly means of commute.

This glow-in-the dark cycle path is situated near Lidzbark Warminski and was created by TPA Instytut Badań Technicznych Sp. z o.o. This path is developed from a synthetic material that gets charged by the sunlight and can give out light for up to ten hours at a time.

“The material we used for the track gives light for over ten hours. That means the road can radiate throughout the whole night and re-accumulate light the following day,” said Igor Ruttmar, president of TPA Sp. z o.o.

Putting in priority the safety and the convenience of bikers who cycle at night, this initiative is a cost efficient and sustainable endeavour that is surely going to benefit many. This luminous bike trail is now in the trial mode and nothing has been revealed about its duration. So, next time when you are in Poland, do not forget to check out this amazing cycle track.
