London To Get The World’s First 360-Degree Infinity Pool

Brace yourself folks in London! A 600,0000 litre infinity pool seated on top of a 55-storey building called ‘Infinity London’ will soon hit the city! The construction of the pool will begin in 2020. By Ishani Singh

Swimming pool designer and manufacturer Compass Pools has revealed its upcoming plan of building the world’s first 360-degree infinity pool and it is an architectural masterpiece. The massive pool is expected to deliver the best views of the city’s skyline, with transparent sides and floors made of cast acrylic, and will allow visitors to swim 200 metres above the capital’s skyline. According to sources, the pool will not have stairs but rather be equipped with a spiral staircase based on the door of a submarine, which will rotate and rise through the water to help swimmers enter the structure and give them an illusion of being suspended in the sky.

“We faced some major technical challenges to this building, the biggest one being how to actually get into the pool. The solution is based on the door of a submarine, coupled with a rotating spiral staircase, which rises from the pool floor when someone wants to get in or out — the absolute cutting edge of swimming pool and building design and a little bit James Bond to boot,” said swimming pool designer and technical director Alex Kemsley stated.

The swimming pool will also feature an in-built anemometer to monitor wind speed, which will be linked to a computer-controlled building management system to ensure that the water doesn’t spill beyond the enclosure. It will be centrally-heated by using the waste energy from air conditioners of the main building.

The construction of the building is expected to kick-start in 2020.
