For A Stylish Tropical Holiday: Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort, Mauritius

Romantic, tranquil, and quaint all at once—Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort is a destination that will tick off a ‘stylish tropical holiday’ off your bucket list. While also giving you a taste of the rare African-European heritage by the Indian Ocean. By Rashima Nagpal

In the potpourri that Mauritius is, its Southern coast is where you get a taste of its calm, otherworldly fragrance. Called Savanne, this part of the island nation is home to its best kept secrets: unspoilt shores, basalt cliffs, indigenous wildlife, unseen waterfalls, fishing villages from an era gone by, and more.

Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort, the property that we chose for our recent cover shoot with Kiara Advani, is part of this enviable location. Much like Mauritius itself, the resort is full of character. While part of it is decked up in heritage, a tasteful contemporary aesthetic appeals to your senses the minute you arrive.

Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort is an all-suite property with 156 abodes. Of blond wood floors, layers of beige, subdued sunlight, diaphanous drapes, chic textiles by French designer Christian Lacroix, columns and verandahs reminiscent of colonial times—the suites feel utterly warm, comfortable, and charming. Similar to the homes of sugar estate owners, they feature wide front-openings that lead you to lush gardens, white-sand beaches, and the turquoise sea. From the Garden View Suite to the Beach Front Ocean Suite, the mood is consistent throughout, only the luxuries vary.

The culinary journey at Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness resort is as delicious as it is varied. Next to the pool as well as the ocean, The Palmier, which boasts fresh seafood and light cuisine, is perfect for a barefoot lunch. At Gin’ja, the refined pan-Asian restaurant, dig into the soulful flavours of the East in a rustic setting. Annabella’s, named as a tribute to botanist Charles Telfair’s wife, is inspired by the plantation owners’ homes offering a variety of daily menus, and is the main restaurant that serves local Creole fare at the resort. Diners enjoy its neo-brasserie spirit in a minimalist decor, where charm and romanticism pervade.

Seven Colours, the wellness sanctuary at Heritage Le Telfair, is a haven of complete relaxation and rejuvenation. The osteopath Mathieu Gossart embraces a novel concept, one that is authentically Mauritian: the quest for wellbeing surpasses a simple spa experience. “Focusing on the seven chakras of the body and the seven colours of the rainbow, it is a complete holistic experience we offer,” explains Gossart. “Beyond the energising aspect of our treatments, we also work on the mental, nutritional, personal development and relaxation aspects.” A series of physical exercises, tailor-made for individuals or groups, are designed to correct muscle imbalances, improve posture, coordination, balance, strength and flexibility. Yoga, Tai Chi, Qigong, Pilates and meditation classes are offered in the shade of the Wellness Pavilion. And offerings such as Forest Bathing and Wellness Walks at the Nature Reserve are a great way to revitalise oneself in sync with nature.

Artist Alison Bignon’s, decorator Paule de Romeuf’s, and landscapist Laurence Aurejac’s contributions to this haven of a resort are worth mentioning. And the fact that it is part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, speaks volumes about its repute.
