The trek starts from Thakurwadi village, which is at the base of Kalavantin and Prabhalgad fort. You can have some snacks and tea before you kick-start the adventure trek. The trek to this peak takes about three hours and is accessible by stairs carved into the edges of the rocky mountains, with no ropes or guard rails. As you move up, the trail gets steeper and vertigo-inducing, but the jaw-dropping views and beautiful scenery on the way makes it worthwhile.

The trek is dotted with tea-and-snack stalls, accompanied by a breakfast point at Prabalmachi, and a midway hamlet base settled at an elevation of 1279.5 feet above sea level. This point is preferred for relaxing before you hit the trail again. Once you climb to the top, you will be greeted with mesmerising panoramic views.

October to March is the best time to take this trek up. Monsoons are crowded and pleasant too, but heavy rains can make the trek more dangerous and difficult.

How To Reach Thakurwadi (Trek Base)

The nearest railway station in Panvel, Navi Mumbai which is 162 km away from the trek base. Most of Kalavantin trek tours are organised from Mumbai. With 274 km away from Pune and 147 km from Mumbai, the place can be easily reached by cabs or buses.

What To Pack

Sturdy trekking shoes, first-aid kit and water bottles are a must among others. Depending upon the season, wear an appropriate gear, please.
