It’s that time of the year when Jaipur gets flocked by bibliophiles from across the globe. Decked with colourful artefacts and coupled with intellectually-stimulating panel discussions — this affair is a dream-come-true for readers, writers, speakers and artistes alike. The first month of the year will mark the beginning of the famous Literature Festival in Jaipur. This time the 13th edition of the much-awaited Lit Fest will commence on January 23 and will continue till January 27.
These five days offer a complete blend of literature, music, art and food served on a platter. Renowned across the planet, this festival gives a platform to writers, speakers, thinkers, humanitarians, politicians, business leaders and entertainers to showcase their talent and share their views on trending issues.
So, what’s new this time?
Among the speakers to look out for this year are Pulitzer Prize winners Stephen Greenblatt, Dexter Filkins, and Elizabeth Gilbert, culinary expert Madhur Jaffrey, activist Anuradha Bhagwati, journalist Ravish Kumar, noted Indian poet Arvind Krishna Mehrotra, bestselling author Åsne Seierstad, writer Chitra Mudgal (first woman to receive the Vyas Samman for her acclaimed novel Avaan); the 2011 winner of the Samuel Johnson Prize for Non-Fiction Frank Dikötter, Howard Jacobson, recipient of the 2010 Man Booker Prize for his work The Finkler Question; KR Meera, the winner of the Kendra and Kerala Sahitya Akademi awards for her novel Aaraachaar, award-winning journalist Raj Kamal Jha, veteran Hindustani vocalist, Shubha Mudgal, renowned author Suketu Mehta and many more.
The Lit Fest will be held at Diggi Palace Hotel in Jaipur. This year, festival producer Teamwork Arts has also organised a blogging competition where writers can submit their finest piece of work based upon the shortlisted themes. The entries started from November 20 and are open till December 15.
The festival’s delegate experience includes complimentary lunches, cocktail evening, heritage event, and more.
The Jaipur Music Stage from January 23 – January 25 will feature performances by artistes and bands like Aabha Hanjura, Parvaaz, Gavin James, Ricky Kej, Shubha Mudgal, and Transglobal Underground, amongst others.
Apart from this, just like every year, the seventh edition of Jaipur BookMark (JBM), a platform for publishers, literary agents, translation agencies and writers, to talk with industry players across the globe, will run along with the festival.
