Yulu and Smart Bikes, two app-based companies that provide battery-operated cycles on hire in Delhi are planning to expand their services. You will soon be able to hire a cycle at your doorstep in Delhi to go to work after lockdown. By Kumar Shree

Yulu provides its services at Delhi Metro stations in collaboration with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), and Smart Bikes operates mostly in Lutyen’s Delhi through its collaboration with the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC). The two companies are planning to expand their services across the city. And if that happens, they will set up bike stations in over 130 residential areas of the national capital by end of 2020. Simply put, you’ll soon be able to hire a cycle in Delhi right at your doorstep.

Currently, Yulu operates in 25 residential areas including Vasant Kunj, Lajpat Nagar, and Saket. The company is planning to create 100 new zones in areas such as Aurobindo Place Market, CR Park Market, Hauz Khas Market, Lajpat Nagar 1, Pushp Vihar, and Sarvodaya Enclave. And, they intend to create these new zones in the next three months.

Smart Bike, on the other hand, is planning to build 30 new stations by November. Currently, there are 49 Smart Bike stations in Delhi, with a total of 490 cycles.

After being under a prolonged stretch of lockdown, India is gradually in the process of unlocking restrictions. And, as people begin to come out of their homes, the demand for safe transportation means has substantially gone up. While a majority of the population is still shying away from the idea of commuting via public transports, contact-less options like these will surely be welcomed.

These cycles allow one to commute freely without having to come in close proximity to others. Also, it’s a great workout too and saves all the fuel money.
