Hawaii Governor David Ige recently released a statewide order declaring 14-Day quarantine mandatory for all passengers coming into the state till July 31. Here are all the details. By Kumar Shree

While the state already had a 14-day quarantine policy in place, this new order makes it compulsory for both residents and travellers coming into Hawaii. The same extends to all arrivals at state airports, through private or commercial aircraft.

All arriving passengers must sign orders confirming that they are aware of the 14-day mandatory quarantine policy. The same order states that violating the quarantine period and its norms is a criminal offence, which could attract a fine of up to USD 5,000 (INR 3,81,287) and/or imprisonment for a year. The quarantine period begins right from the person’s time of entry into the state to 14 days or the duration of the visit, whichever qualifies shorter.

The new order also has norms chalked out for hotels, homestays, car rental, and cab-sharing services. All hosts must ensure that their guests abide by the self-quarantine rules. In case of a violation, they must inform the law enforcement team. Car rental and cab-sharing services cannot provide services to the person who is supposed to be in the 14-day self-quarantine unless they are granted an exemption by the authorities.
