A Certain Dirty Apron is the Solution to Your Summer Woes

Summer may be on its way out, but Dirty Apron in Delhi’s Safdarjung neighbourhood is giving us good reason to wish it stays a little longer. Right above Piano Man, the popular jazz club in the city, this pretty restaurant has laid out a summer special menu. By Shikha Pushpan

As the high Delhi temperatures begin to take a dip, we find one restaurant that has for two months now, brought its jazzy side out with a delicious summer menu. Expect a high fibre meal that includes everything from soups, appetisers, amuse bouche, and mains, to desserts and popsicles. Go green with herbs– basil, rosemary, lemongrass, thyme, coriander, mint – it’s refreshing and the kind you can sit through for a five-course meal.

A glass of detox water sets the tone for this rich herb-based meal. Begin with a green apple soup or cherry tomato detox – both served cold – and then nibble your way through char-grilled watermelon, caramalised onion, mint and feta salad.

The summer menu is designed by Chef Manoj Kumar Pandey for patrons who are looking for healthy and wholesome food. The soups have detox elements such as cider vinegar and green apple that refresh the palate. Different types of lettuce such as arugula and lollorosso are used to give the salad its ‘crunch’ factor. The meal ends with the heavenly Chocolate Meltdown which is well worth the mention!

The restaurant derives its inspiration from European and Asian cuisines. This is the Dirty Apron’s first summer menu and quite well thought-out.For example, they use sous vide chicken, which is an efficient method of cooking meat that helps it retain the moisture inside and prevents it from becoming dry.

There are approximately 15 dishes on the summer menu (they also have another, exhaustive regular menu) which kind of leaves you wishing for more options. There’s no fish, prawn or red meat, which can be a put-off for non-vegetarians visiting the place. But if you are really looking forward to adding some seasonal flair to summer dining, look no further than Dirty Apron.

Cost for two: INR 2,000

Must-haves: Cajun chicken in crepe net; honey balsamic lamb chops; lemongrass gingerale; chocolate meltdown

Why visit: Vintage interiors; cozy roof-top seating

Hot deals: Apart from the green menu, there’s a 1+1 on beer and pizza right now.
