Don’t we all have moments where we wish for our lives to emulate movies? Don’t we all want to roam the corridors of Hogwarts, experience an Indiana Jones-esque adventure or just have our Pretty Woman moment at Beverly Wilshire Hotel? While the contract to a film with a million-dollar budget cannot be promised by us, we can hand out a guide to some of the magical places where fiction meets reality. After all we all need a bit of fiction to spark up our lives from time to time and with this guide, you can finally be the star you always wanted to be. Quoyina Ghosh

1. Hogwarts, Harry Potter Films

An absolute phenomenon of a franchise, these films have defined an entire generation of children. Today, every white owl is Hedwig to us and the people we don’t warm up to, muggles. In fact, the biggest defeat we faced while growing up was not receiving our joining letters from Hogwarts. Not anymore, for we have the locations listed down for your perfect Hogwarts moments. You want the classrooms? Head to Lacock Abbey. You want the hallways? Gloucester Cathedral, it is! The impressive stairway scenes? They were shot at Christ Church College, Oxford and finally, for a panoramic view of the castle in its totality, you can head to Alnwick Castle.

2. Carrie Bradshaw’s Apartment, Sex And The City

The brilliance of female friendships, steady tips on how to navigate the roadways of romance and learning to stumble our way through adulthood was basically first taught to us by our favourite four in Sex and the City. All happened while sipping a cosmopolitan and staying in vogue, of course. Therefore, it is but natural for us to want to pay homage to Carrie at her iconic apartment in 66 Perry St, New York, NY 10014, United States! Make sure to wear your favourite Manolo Blahniks!

3. Notting Hill Bookstore, Notting Hill

“I’m also just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her,” remember that? Very few things compare to that sublime scene between Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts in ‘The Travel Book Co.’ store in Notting Hill and very few things ever will. So, go ahead, make your way down Portobello Road to 13 Blenheim Cres, Notting Hill and have your moment. You deserve it.

4. Harbour Freeway, LA LA LAND

Remember that iconic opening scene of La La Land? That spontaneous beautiful synchronised dancing in the midst of traffic? That was filmed right here on the Harbour Freeway in LA. Go for a ride, maybe put on the La La Land songs but do not start dancing on the road. If you do, this guide will quickly change from being a guide to places where fiction meets reality to a guide to jail.

5. Nakatomi Plaza, Die Hard

Not that it needs any introduction, Nakatomi Plaza is basically the place where one of the best action movies were shot. In actuality, it is known as Fox Plaza and is located at 2121 Avenue of the Stars. It is a dream location for every Die Hard fan, so go ahead and walk the plan tread on by the one and only John McLane. It also features in Fight Club, Speed and various other films.

6. Firehouse, Ghostbusters

The 1984 classic Ghostbusters was something we all grew up with. So much so that the response to “Who you gonna call?” is implicit in our brains! (“Ghostbusters!”). Classics like these always hold a special place in our hearts and you know what makes it even better? Actually heading to where it was shot! If their iconic headquarters are what you seek, just make your way to 14 North Moore Street, New York. Its interiors were shot at yet another firehouse and to get to this one, you have to make your way to 225 E. 5th Street, Los Angeles.
