“Unspoiled, Unexplored, Unbelievable” — is the official tagline of the Faroe Islands that has taken virtual tourism to the next level. You can now explore the island located off the coast of Denmark with a local to guide you through the serene cliffs, valleys, and mountains. By Manya Saini

If you are a housebound globetrotter with a hankering to travel right now then start with the one-of-a-kind online travel experience that’ll take you around the beautiful Faroe Islands. The islands located almost halfway between Iceland and Norway are open for tourism virtually but this is not the usual video experience.

The virtual tours have kicked off on April 15 and will take place daily for the next few days to satisfy your wanderlust. If you have questions, the tourism board team will be there to answer them on their official Instagram and Facebook handles, live. They will also offer insights on where to go and what all to see on the island.

Imagine seeing the incredible landscapes, grassy slopes, and waterfalls with the built in-game feature that allows the tourists to tell where the local guides go, turn, walk, or even jump with its on-screen control pad. The virtual tours run when the guides turn on their live video cameras. There is no limit on the number of people that can join and visitors are given control of the guide’s activity for one minute each.

The sparsely populated island is a beautiful and hidden destination which promises to make you forget all about the lockdown travel restrictions. The Faroes might be closed till the end of April, but the North Atlantic Islands are still open for you to see through the eyes of a local.
