Ed Sheeran, the chart-topping singer, recently took to Instagram to announce his break from music and social media “until its time to come back.” The ‘Shape of You’ singer previously took a back step from social media in 2015. By Ritika Dixit
Ed Sheeran has taken a breather from music and social media. The ‘Perfect’ singer took to Instagram to let his fans know about his decision of taking a step back, “to take a breather to travel, write and read.” Declared ‘Artist of the Decade’ by UK-based Official Charts Company, the singer believes that he has been a bit non-stop since 2007. Even Ed Sheeran’s manager, Stuart Camp, admitted the singer’s apparent ubiquity ran the risk of overkill.
In 2015, the singer took a break from work and social media, saying that he was “seeing the world through a screen and not his eyes.” He returned to the music scene the following year, having used his break “to travel the world and see everything I missed.”

Spent an entire month since tour ended painting, which I’ve never done before. Had so much fun doing it. If I’m honest I felt a bit useless once tour had ended, coz singing, writing and gigging is all I’ve ever known, so it’s nice to find a new way to be creative. I’d recommend anyone getting a few paints and having a splash around, it’s so fun. Righto – back to hibernation x 📸 @marksurridge
With his third No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with LP ‘No. 6 Collaborations Project’, Ed Sheeran also wrapped up his globetrotting Divide tour that started in 2017. The much-loved singer plans to make a comeback to the internet and music industry when he had “lived a little more to actually have something to write about.” Sheeran has also changed his display picture on Instagram to that of a black-and-white image that says BRB.
The announcement arrived after a video last week for Ella Mai collaboration ‘Put It All On Me‘, in which Sheeran is seen dancing in a kitchen with his wife Cherry Seaborn, and setting up a charitable music foundation in order to encourage and empower young musicians in his home county Suffolk.
“For the love of travelling, reading, and writing!”
