Now you can once again enjoy in-flight meals and beverage services both on your domestic as well as international trips.

“The government has permitted the airlines to serve pre-packed snacks, meals and beverages on domestic flights and hot meals on international flights,” All India Radio mentioned.

The in-flight meal services have remained completely suspended in domestic flights since May 25, 2020, whereas international flights were allowed to serve only cold meals and pre-packed snacks till now

However, the Aviation Ministry has granted permission upon a condition that only single-use disposable cutlery, plates and trays will be used to serve the food and the crew will wear fresh gloves after every service. In fact, pouring of beverage won’t be allowed in the economy or business class.

Moreover, it has also allowed passengers to use in-flight entertainment on both domestic as well as international flights, provided they are given disposable earphones or disinfected headphones.

“Only single-use disposable trays, plates and cutlery should be used while serving food or beverages in both domestic and international flights. The flight crew has been instructed to wear a fresh set of gloves for every meal or beverage service. Passengers have been allowed to use the in-flight entertainment system on flights. Airlines have been instructed to provide disposable earphones or cleaned and disinfected headphones at the start of the journey,” AIR added.

Meanwhile, it also said, “Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation has informed that any passenger who refuses to wear a face mask in a flight can be put on the no-fly list by the airline. Government has amended the SOPs for both domestic and international flight operations.”

While international passenger flights continue to remain non-functional, since the outbreak of COVID-19 in March, special international flights under Vande Bharat Mission and bilateral bubbles are still operational. However, domestic flights which resumed in May, are allowed to operate with less than half of the pre-COVID-19 air carriers.
