Dine At Bagundi To Enjoy Authentic Andhra Food In The Heart Of Delhi!

If you’re looking for fresh, home-cooked food or wish to obsess over flavourful taste from South India when in Delhi, Bagundi is the answer. This quaint and inconspicuous joint located on the outer circle of the bustling Georgian-styled Connaught Place is sure to steal your heart. By Amitha Ameen

What We Loved

From the moment you walk in through traditional wooden carved double doors of Bagundi (which means ‘good’ in Telugu), you find walls adorned with paintings and murals of South Indian festivals like Makar Sankranti. Wooden tables and chairs, copper tumblers, and plates with banana leaves have you believe that you are in rural Andhra Pradesh. From vintage brass lunchbox sets that remind you of a much simpler time, and a big screen playing scenes from iconic Telugu movies to the soft breezy tunes of popular Telugu songs filling the brightly lit room, Bagundi provides the perfect laid-back fine dining experience while serving up an appetising mix of flavours. Bagundi is spread over two floors and the second floor is gearing up to provide a more authentic experience, with the staff encouraging you to dine the traditional way—sitting cross-legged on the floor—while live bands play traditional music.

The piping hot tangy rasam cannot be missed. The place is a boon for seafood lovers, with the freshest of catch cooked to perfection with their signature spices. For starters, it’s a tight tie between the fiery boneless Chicken 65 and the succulent authentic Andhra Prawn Fry. For main course, one can opt for the quintessential Gongura Chicken or the Crab Meat Masala, both of which can be savoured with rice or Malabar paratha. End the meal with melt-in-the mouth Rava Kesari and payasam sprinkled with cashew nuts.

Why We Would Return

The homely ambience coupled with wonderful hospitality and a no-frills, cozy ambience will make this a favourite for when you decide to head out with friends or family. The dish that steals the show is hands down the easy-to-eat crab masala that throws out the hassle of breaking open the hard shell of the crab.
