Ragasthan, India’s version of Burning Man and Asia’s first desert camping festival is back for its third edition. Starting today till February 25, the Thar Desert will come to life with activities at the festival including cinema, art, adventure, and lots of food and shopping stalls. By Pallavi Mehra
“Where do you belong?” You belong to you, come claim your life!” begins the Ragasthan 2018 teaser video. Ragasthan is Asia’s first desert camping festival bringing together life enthusiasts in the middle of nowhere in the Thar Desert, 400 kilometre from Jaisalmer. It’s is a three-day carnival of eclectic music, culture, tradition, collective participation and shared experiences. Ragasthan 2018 promises countless perfect moments with friends, strangers and yourself under a bed of stars and on a million grains of soft sand.
This year’s itinerary includes over 50 artists, one artists’ village, a sociable camping space, numerous film screenings, bars and restaurants, art installations, morning yoga sessions and football on the expansive sand dunes. Artists headlining Ragasthan 2018 include Ensemble Quinetique from the Netherlands, Delhi 2 Dublin from Canada, Christ Burstein from Argentina and Dhruv Visvanathan.
Working towards creating a celebration of freedom, the Ragasthan crew has set up 630 Swiss tents with running water and warm beds, 530 camping tents and 300 cases of free beer. Festival attendees can also bring their own tents or stay in Jaisalmer, which is a 40-minute drive away.
In the past 2 years, Ragasthan has hosted 137 acts, 436 artists and 5,500 crazy festival-goers from 37 countries. The Ragasthan 2018 trailer video ends with the following, “stop talking about life changing experiences, stop living someone else’s life and start living yours!”

Tickets to Ragasthan 2018 range from Rs 4500-Rs 60,000. You can fly into Jaisalmer or Jodhpur and drive to Ragasthan.
