The Travel + Leisure India & South Asia’s Delicious Food Awards 2019 showed the capital a great, great time at the swanky address of The Imperial New Delhi last Saturday as it acknowledged the best of culinary experiences across India with fitting titles. From releasing T+L’s A-List Advisory Board 2019, to honouring leading chefs and restaurants, to bewitching band performances, to best of tipples pouring in, and mouth-watering food on serve—it was a dreamy night to remember. If the incredible Indian culinary scene has gifted us something, it is great choices. From indigenous foods and modern cuisines to restaurants with bespoke services and bewitching themes—the list is quite endless. So, when it came to picking the best of the bests this year, we decided to let our discerning readers decide who all win the gastronomy game at the Travel + Leisure India and South Asia’s Delicious Food Awards 2019.

Glittering Victorian chandeliers above, blooming white orchids for décor, a grand stage ahead, a huge dessert station at the back, and a fully-stocked bar right outside—the iconic Royal Ballroom of The Imperial New Delhi played the perfect venue to the second edition of the Delicious Food Awards.

Our host for the night, the stunning Aahana Kumra opened the show by inviting our Editor-in-chief, Aindrila Mitra, on stage to welcome the guests, and reveal the much-awaited Travel + Leisure India’s A List 2019—a set of absolute go-getters from different walks of life who are coming together with us for the most amazing and fun collaborations for the year. The list includes ace director, Imtiaz Ali; celebrity chef, Anahita Dhondy; renowned restaurateur, Zorawar Kalra; executive vice president of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, Saurabh Rai; ace photographer, Rohan Shreshtha; founder of Rare India, Shobha Mohan; fashion designers Shivan & Narresh (Shivan Bhatiya and Narresh Kukreja); wildlife photographer, Sudhir Shivaram; adventurer and Padma Shri awardee, Ajeet Bajaj; Bollywood pulbicist, Rohini Iyer; and celebrated author, Siddharth Shanghvi.

The big reveal of The A List 2019 was followed by a quick talk by Björn Rettig, CEO of Burda Media India, who then invited amidst applause Mr. Vijay Wanchoo, the General Manager of The Imperial New Delhi to address the guests. Talking of his delight to host the event, Mr. Wanchoo declared the award night open.

Divided into three categories, the awards started with the Restaurant Category, honouring different restaurants across the country with a number of titles including Best Ambience, Best Cocktail Bar, Best Farm-To-Table, Best Service, Best Sunday Brunch, Best Theme and many more. The phase one of the event wrapped up with an enchanting performance by the multi-genre band, Parvati La Cantante, featuring the vocal stylings of Parvati Mohanakrishnan, Rythem Bansal on piano, Aditya Dutta on drums and Shashank Das on the upright bass.

The second phase of the night was all about the best of cuisines—ranging from Pan-Asian and Mughlai to Italian and Indian, and to everything in between. Another performance by the band kept the guests entertained till the last round of awards was all set to roll. The Jury Awards enlisted categories like Best New Restaurant in East & West, and that in North & South, but the star title of the night, the ‘Restaurant of the Year’ was bagged by Baoshuan of The Oberoi, New Delhi!

The Delicious Food Awards 2019 came to a close for yet another eventful year with a wide delectable dinner spread prepared to perfection at The Imperial New Delhi’s kitchen. Each guest was handed over a bag full of goodies from our gifting partners, Seer Secrets and Baked By Ratna Saluja.
