Now you will be able to travel from Delhi to Dehradun in just 3 hours, with the new Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. The construction of an elevated expressway has been recently approved by the Centre. With this expressway, the distance between these two cities is likely to come down from 250 kilometres to just 180 kilometres

The expressway to be built by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), with the help of the Uttarakhand state government, will not only help boost state tourism, but will also help in its overall economic development.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat reportedly received the Centre’s go ahead by NHAI chairman SS Sandhu after he paid Rawat a courtesy call at his residence earlier this week. The CM also confirmed about the expressway on his official twitter handle. However, as the proposed highway falls under the forest and wildlife jurisdiction of Uttar Pradesh, the NHAI has reportedly asked Rawat to request the UP government for speedy clearances.

As per reports, the expressway will pass through GaneshpurMohand, and Ashkrodi in Uttarkhand and Saharanpur, Baghpat and Loni in Uttar Pradesh. Reports further add that an elevated road on the route and a new tunnel near Mohand on the outskirts of Dehradun are also part of the project.

Apart from this, the NHAI is also working on Delhi-Mumbai expressway, which is expected to complete in three years and is likely to reduce the distance between the two cities by 280 kilometeres, thereby bringing down the travel time to just 12 hours.

Recently, the Railway Ministry had agreed to launch a Tejas Express train between Delhi and Dehradun via Haridwar. Moreover, earlier this month, Vistara had also announced to start a daily flight between the two cities from March 29.

Uttarakhand government is also likely to come up with a special policy to promote spiritual eco-zones in the state. As per reports, the state has already identified primary locations such as Tehri, Rishikesh, Gangotri, Almora, and Yamunotri.
