Dwelling upon the range of the culinary scene in Delhi NCR, we check out, After Stories, a mid-range restaurant in Gurgaon’s Sector 29. And, we weren’t disappointed. By Rashima Nagpal

In Gurgaon‘s Sector 29, a variety of restaurants keep the crowd of the metropolis entertained. Be it a secret hole in a wall, a boisterous pub, or a humble regional specialty, you’ll find venues for all moods and pockets. Owing to this fact, I didn’t quite know what to expect from After Stories — though the name appealed to me.

We land up there one fine evening post work. Owning a corner spot close to the IFFCO metro station, it stands lit on the outside. Inside, we take a few minutes before we decide on a reasonably lit table though, wondering if afternoons do better to this place. That happens when you are out for a food review and your primary concern is good lighting for good photographs; brewpubs are seldom bright.

Coming to the main agenda, we order small portions of a couple of dishes on their menu. I, the vegetarian, ask for pita and hummus, peri-peri spring rolls, tandoori soya chaap, and a hot toddy on the side, to start with. My Malayali friend goes for a plate of honey-glazed crispy chicken and an apple cider beer for himself and agrees to help me with the rest of the spread.

I always seek good music along with good food at a restaurant. At After Stories, my ears were waiting to be pleased as we waited for the food, but that couldn’t happen. But once the dishes arrived, they made up for the lack of a nice playlist. The spring rolls were thin and crispy. Pita and hummus were just that. My friend appreciated the tender chicken and added that its flavoured well. But it was the soya that we most enjoyed; stuffed with a creamy mash of peas and cashews, the barbecued chunks were succulent and unique. The Thai green curry and the grilled chicken in red wine sauce for main course were fulfilling enough.

The corporate-ish people pouring in gave us an idea that it’s a decent place for a relaxed post-work dinner on a weekday. The reviews on Zomato will further tell you that private party seekers appreciate it for its space spread across three floors. Considering that not many places in town offer this luxury, After Stories is worth the appreciation.
