1. Shillong Peak

Sitting at an altitude of around 2,000 m above sea level, Shillong Peak is one of the highest points in the state. Trek your way to the peak and be rewarded with a splendid view of the city below. You can also expect to come across some rare flowers and plants on your way to the top. Apart from the cityscape, on a clear and sunny day, the peak also rewards climbers with a glimpse of the Himalayan range and Bangladesh’s plains.

The act of “seed saving” and “seed sharing” among the farming communities have reduced drastically over these years. Currently, we are so dependent on multinationals and giant agri- companies for chemically treated seeds for farming and agriculture. Mono-cropping is on the rise and seed monopoly from the giant companies is only disturbing the traditional seed banks and seed saving techniques. . . . Sharing a photograph from a Food walk at Bara bazaar, Shillong. These are carefully preserved locally grown seeds sold by women farmers. They are not labelled nor packeted unlike the ones from big companies. These seeds carry stories and histories of the land and have naturally evolved along times. The diverse spread clearly reiterates that the land has produced multiple crops and foods unlike the mono-cropping trend promoted by the big companies. This picture should remind us of our roots and creating the discourse on saving seeds and passing the wisdom of food and seeds through generations and the importance of archiving it. . . . When we talk about seed saving and seed sovereignty in India, I get inspiration from the work and activism of Dr. Vandana Shiva who at @NavdanyaInternational has been tirelessly fighting for seed and food sovereignty in India and International level. . . . . . . #seedsovereignty #seedsaving #foodsovereignty #foodwisdom #Meghalayafoodseries #Meghalaya #Barabazaar #eatdiverse #eatlocal #traditionalmethods #seedknowledge
