Now you can move your work desk to Iceland for six months with its Work In Icelandprogramme, that had earlier granted 90 days to teleworkers, but is now offering a longer visa option to not just to people from the European Schengen area, but to any foreign national.

However, there is one condition; you should have proof that you earn one million Icelandic Krona (approximately INR 5,47,410) per month, which means you need to have an annual income of USD 88,000 (approximately INR 64,98,743).

Apart from this, all applicants must be permanent employees in foreign companies and meet the necessary health requirements. Moreover, if granted a visa, they can also bring their family along, without moving their legal home, or obtaining an Icelandic ID.

“Internationals who reside in Iceland will be eligible to work remotely for overseas companies and stay in the country for up to six months, Iceland’s government has announced. Internationals engaged in telework are allowed now to apply for a long-term visa, which permits them and their families to stay in Iceland for more than six months. The decision follows the measures that have been put in place by Iceland’s Minister of Tourism, Industry and Innovation together with the Minister of Justice and the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs. Through this move, non-EEA nationals will be eligible to reside in Iceland for more than six months. In addition, all internationals who are excluded from the visa requirements are permitted to file an application for a long-term visa in Iceland for a remote job and bring their families without additional requirements such as having Icelandic ID numbers,” schengenvisainfo.com states.

Other than Iceland, other island nations like Estonia, BarbadosBermuda and Cayman Islands have also introduced similar offers in order to earn foreign revenue during the pandemic, so as to make up for the losses suffered during this severely-hit period.
