The latest World Economic Outlook (2018) has been released by International Monetary Fund (IMF). An analysis of the data reveals the richest countries of the world. By Radhika Sikaria
Twice a year, the IMF releases data on the economic power of all the countries in the world. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita based on Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) is the key statistic used in tabulating the report.
Values are expressed in current international dollars, to the nearest whole dollar, reflecting a single year’s (2016) currency exchange rates and PPP adjustments. The list is dominated by small countries rather than superpowers such as the United States, China, or Japan.
