Travel time between Shimla and Chandigarh is set to reduce from 3 hours 30 minutes to just 20 minutes with the introduction of the heli-taxi service from June 4. While this service hopes to increase the tourist footfall to the hill station, we hope to see the water crisis resolved by then. By Anuja Dixit
People from Chandigarh or nearby can jet off to the summer capital Shimla in just 20 minutes from Chandigarh as the Himachal Pradesh government has joined hands with Pawan Hans to introduce a heli- taxi service between Shimla and Chandigarh from June 4.
The service will be available every Monday and Friday and will charge a fare of INR 2,999 per person. Dipesh Joshi, the official spokesperson of Chandigarh International Airport confirms that the chopper can ferry about 20 passengers at a time and will depart from Chandigarh at 8 am and arrive at Shimla at 8:20 am. The same chopper will depart from Chandigarh at 9 am and reach Shimla at 9:20 am. The service is an effort to promote hill tourism and the frequency will be increased depending on the response from the public.
