One of the most popular tourist destinations in India, God’s Own Country Kerala, is planning to add new and interesting features to its existing list of travel experiences with STREET projects. By Karan Kaushik
All about Kerala Tourism’s Maravanthuruthu Water Street and other STREET projects
As part of its ambitious STREET Projects, Kerala Tourism has inaugurated the first project Maravanthuruthu Water Street. The project is aimed at providing a makeover to the tourism industry in the state. The tourism department aims to introduce new experiences under experiential tourism.
According to a report published in The Times of India, there are 10 STREET projects in the pipeline. STREET stands for Sustainable, Tangible, Responsible, Experiential, and Ethnic Tourism. These projects will be implemented through Kerala Tourism’s Responsible Tourism Mission Kerala programme. The projects will also require the support of the concerned Local Self Governments.

With these projects, Kerala Tourism plans to give a boost to experiential tourism and make its existing tourism offerings better by adding new features. Under the Maravanthuruthu Water Street project, the state government wants to develop Maravanthuruthu as a sustainable and experiential tourism destination.

According to the report, as many as 18 canal networks and three rivers were cleaned and revived by the local panchayats and the Responsible Tourism Mission Kerala.
Kerala Tourism believes that these STREET projects will encourage responsible tourism. The tourism department also wants tourists to visit the lesser-explored destinations in the state.
The STREET projects are based on several themes like Green Street, Cultural Street, Ethnic Cuisine Street, Village Experiential Tourism, and Art Street among others.
