Have you ever wondered how it would be to run on an airport runway? Well you could do just that on May 8 as part of the Runway 10K that will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the third largest airport in the country. By Bindu Gopal Rao

Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) the company that operates the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) is organizing the Runway 10K a unique run that will be held on the runway of the airport. Considering the fact the airport is a high security, zone BIAL has ensured that they have obtained clearance from the aviation regulatory agencies. Naturally, all participants are mandated to follow the airport entry procedures. Special airport entry passes will be given to selected participants and family of the participants will not be allowed as this is a serious non spectator event. While the runway would be closed for the run, there would be no flight disruptions and diversions as the airport runway happens to be closed every Tuesday between 12.30 pm and 3:00 pm for maintenance work.

While no prizes are part of the event, it certainly makes for a once in a lifetime experience of entering the airport and not actually travel anywhere. While this tarmac run is the first of its kind for an Indian airport such events have already take place at other major airports like London Heathrow and New York’s JFK. Anyone above the age of 18 years can register for the event and only 100 participants will be selected to take part in the run that will happen between 12.45 pm and 2.30 on May 8. The last date for registration is April 30. Preference will be given to seasoned runners so if you have participated in other marathons, you will be in good stead so make sure you mention that as part of your registration.
