As a backup singer with Indian pop band Euphoria, and then, a lead singer on The Stage, India’s first English singing reality show, Kamakshi Khanna came under the limelight back in her school days. She’s had Vishal Dadlani, Ehsaan Noorani, Monica Dogra, and Devraj Sanyal as mentors in the past and admits she couldn’t have asked for more. She says that the single, most important takeaway from this experience, has been the act of self-reflection and self- awareness as a musician. She formed the Kamakshi Khanna Collective and released her debut EP Much Mellow in 2015, and just last month, took the spotlight again with her new album, ‘Cakewalk’.
Kamakshi Khanna feels she has matured as a singer with Cakewalk. While her last album was ‘sweet and warm’, this one’s more about her journey as a music. She’s experimented more with the sounds, she’s introduced heavy electronic music, although, the base is RnB, ballad, and soul. While we’re sure hers is a name you’ll be hearing for a long time, here’s a short interview we had with her about music, food, and everything in between.
HER MOST MEMORABLE PERFORMANCES
At just 13 years, Kamakshi performed the classic piece Gloria In Excelsis Deo at the Golden Hall in Vienna along with a 100-piece orchestra and a choir. Recently, she feels, the launch of her first EP Much Mellow is an experience that will stay with her forever.
