Recently on October 7, passengers of IndiGo 6E 122 which was EnRoute Bengaluru from Delhi, showered their blessings on a new born baby boy who took his first breath on the planet onboard the flight. “We confirm that a baby boy was delivered prematurely on flight 6E 122 from Delhi to Bangalore. There are no further details available,” the airline said in a statement to PTI.
As per sources, the flight landed at Bengaluru airport around 7:30 pm, and is likely to offer the baby boy free tickets for life. While, the on-ground staff welcomed the child with a banner that read, “Welcomes you to Namma Bengaluru,” Twitterati shared mixed responses, where some users appreciated the airline staff, others questioned them for allowing a woman board the flight in such a critical condition.

A co-passenger tweeted saying, “Was on @IndiGo 6E 122 flight to BLR, woman gives birth mid-air, amazing team work of indigo flight attendants. They setup a hospital in minutes and the new born cried mid-air. Dr Shailaja Vallabhani was fortunately on this flight! Thank You God and entire @IndiGo6E crew.”
“Both the mother and baby are extremely lucky that the birth was uneventful. It would be foolish for others to even wish something like this happening to them. Personally, I feel that childbirth happening anywhere outside of a well-equipped medical set up is fraught with risks,” another user wrote.

Soon the pictures of the extremely happy crew members in a PPE, holding the baby, and a video of the on-ground IndiGo staff and the crew members applauding, went viral. Moreover, the flight’s Captain, Capt. Sanjay Sharma also posted a letter on the social media narrating the whole incident.
Well, this is not the first of its kind incident, as last month only, EgyptAir flight MS777 from Cairo to London was diverted to Munich, Germany, for an emergency landing when Hiyam Nasr Naji Daaban, a Yemeni passenger realised she was going into labour. However, all thanks to the doctor on onboard, she managed to successfully deliver a baby girl even before landing. In response, the airline offered the baby, EgyptAir flight tickets to Munich, free of cost for the rest of her life.
