True devotion and perseverance can achieve anything, at least that’s what we have learned from this viral video of a 68-year old woman who is bicycling all the way to Vaishno Devi from Maharasthra. By Amitha Ameen

Sixty-eight-year old Rekha Devbhankar proves, yet again, that age is just a number. Hailing from Khamgaon in Buldhana District, Maharashtra, the woman appears to have been cycling alone all the way to Jammu and Kashmir to visit the holy shrine of Vaishno Devi. A video of the woman with her cycle has surfaced online and netizens are in awe of her courage and determination.

The video that has now gone viral was shared by Twitter user Ratan Sharda. In the video, the 68-year old can be seen riding the bicycle alone. “A 68-year-old Marathi lady is going to Vaishno Devi on her own, alone, by geared cycle. 2,200 km from Khamgaon. Mother’s power #MatruShakti,” read the tweet.

According to online reports, the woman left her hometown of Khamgaon on July 24 and crossed the state of Madhya Pradesh this week. She cycles roughly 40 kilometres a day and stops only when night falls. Netizens were extremely impressed by the woman’s grit and determination with many users appreciating and hailing her. “Incredible I hope she completes the journey safely. It’s hard to find the strength, courage, and faith like her these days. We all have a lot to learn from our elders. Jai Mata Di” wrote one user.

The annual Vaishno Devi Yatra attracts nearly one crore, pilgrims and devotees, every year from far and wide. It is an important and one of the holiest pilgrim sites for Hindus and home to Hindu Mother Goddess Devi.
